Around May 21st, the announcement of an anime adaption of Busou Renkin leaked online. The timing was sweet, because the same week, the first Drama CD was released - on Nobuhiro Watsuki's birthday, too. It must have been a very nice time for him; it certainly was a great week for his fans.

Considering that the manga was over, the news came entirely unexpected. The previous month, the tenth, conclusive, volume had been released; the story's serialization in Weekly Jump had ended more than a year ago. We all assumed that, apart from the Drama CD, Busou Renkin was truly over.

Over the following weeks and months, new information appeared. The cast list grew, the staff list grew, first pictures and finally a promotional trailer appeared.

This same trailer was also shown on San Diego Comic Con in July 2006, where Nobuhiro Watsuki attended Viz's Shonen Jump panel, answering questions about Rurouni Kenshin, which had only just ended in the USA.

On SDCC, Watsuki also spoke of his involvement with the anime; he had to check the voice actor choices, the designs and the script, but mostly, he stayed out of the production.

Busou Renkin, the anime, finally aired in early October, and quickly proved to be a very satisfying adaptation.
