Episode 3: You've become a little stronger

Summary

Kazuki and Tokiko have roughly a week to find the creator of the homunculi and get the antidote before Tokiko will turn into a homunculus herself. Even though they know that it must be someone from Kazuki's school, their search proves difficult.

Meanwhile, one of the henchmen of the butterfly-masked man, Kawazui, decides to disobey his master's order and to kill Tokiko. Because Tokiko does not seem in a state to fight, Kazuki secretly challenges Kawazui to a duel.

Compared to the manga

This episode covers the chapters five to seven, thus concluding the first volume of the manga.

Just like the first two episodes, it remains true to the original story, with the usual small changes. For the most part, the battle against Kawazui is taking place as usual. Its importance for Kazuki's development is maybe a bit clearer than in the manga, since here it is only the second time that he uses his lance against an enemy, and the first time since the first summoning, making this Kazuki's warrior debut.

Opinion

Frankly, Kawazui is far from my favourite character, and as a consequence, I don't like this fight much. Hiro Yuuki makes me hate the character further, which, all things considered, probably means that he is doing a great job at voice-acting him. After the second time, he was almost fun.

It's funny how transformed Kawazui's voice sounds a bit feminine, while Hanabusa sounds masculine when transformed.

The shading and the animation quality are still pretty good, so there is hope that they will stay as pretty throughout the series.

If there's something I'd have to criticize, it's that Hanabusa's transformation felt a little sudden.

Thinking back, I am most fascinated with the colour of the sports clothes of Kazuki's school. Violet.
