An upbeat and very catchy rock song, Makka na Chikai perfectly sets the mood for the series, conveying its energetic and cheerful nature.
The opening clip introduces most of the important characters from the entire series, subtly foreshadowing things to come. The timing is good, and it's great fun to watch and listen to.
The bonus track on the single is similarly catchy.

Hoshiakari (single)
Ending song single

In contrast to the energetic opening song, Hoshiakari is a very soothing, gentle love song, with lyrics that can be applied to the relationship between Tokiko and Kazuki.
The accompanying ending clip in the anime shows stills from the school building, and Tokiko sitting by herself watching the sundown, to be joined in the end by Kazuki, quietly stepping up beside her.
Funnily, the titular word Hoshiakari does not appear in the TV-sized version of the song.
