Welcome to Aoiya.de's Embalming site!
You are here at the first (and as of yet, only) English-language fansite of Embalming - The Another Tale of Frankenstein, a monthly manga series by Nobuhiro Watsuki (of Rurouni Kenshin and Busou Renkin fame). It will be updated approximately every month, and in case of important news. But updates can be late, since I'm doing this all on my own and don't always find the time.
News
August 3rd Embalming volume 3 out!
Lookit:
The third volume contains chapters 11-16. The current Jump SQ features chapter 19 and also a pretty Embalming cover:
:o Fury's mad. Don't mess with him. I need to get my grubby hands on volumes 2 and 3 now...
July 2nd Embalming volume 2 out this week (in Japan)!
Finally, after a mean nine months wait, Embalming's second volume gets its release on July 3rd!!!
It includes the entire second arc, "Dead Body and Lover" (chapters 6-10), as well as the two framing "Intermission" chapters. Hooray! The current (third) arc is turning out longer than the first two, and will not fit into one tank, as much seems certain. The third volume will be out in August, and I assume that chapters 11-16 will be included - but that's just an estimation. Oh man, I also hope for charcter files, but it will be a while until I can buy my issue... I suppose. Hmm. :( Upcoming chapter this month: Chapter 18.
May 31st 2009 Finally! Tankoubon news!
While Embalming is running steadily in Jump SQ, and is now going towards the climax of its third arch, having ammassed enough chapters to easily fill a third manga volume... the release of the second tankoubon has been oddly delayed. The first volume appeared in September 2009, and now, finally, we get a date for the second volume: July! In fact, according to reliable sources over at 2ch:
Embalming #2: July 3rd 2009 Embalming #3: August 4th 2009
Isn't that wonderful? In further news, Jump SQ #08, the July issue, will apparantly have Embalming on the cover and grant it colour pages. (I'm not sure... the last time this was announced, Emba ended up having colour pages and a position in front of the magazine, but wasn't on the cover after all. Will it be there now? XD) Also, Jump SQ II will be on sale July 18th. That's the yearly (?) special number of Jump SQ, which includes oneshots, spin-offs and specials and extras and whatever... For this issue, an Embalming "novel" is scheduled, according to the offcial site. No further details concerning length or identity of the author, sorry.
YE OLDE NEWSE
February 15th 2009 Embalming continues!
Funny thing, but I actually remembered to upload the review I wrote about Embalming vol. 1, the first volume of the series! Read it here.
Hey, at least I managed to update with this review before the second volume gets released, haha. Of course, there is no release date given so far for vol. 2, but it is getting time! It's been almost half a year since vol. 1, and there is more than enough new material already: the "Dead Body and Lover" arch has concluded after five chapters, and we're already well into "Dead Bodies in London", currently at chapter 13!
This new arch takes place in London and we're treated to Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper references... just as you'd expect. ;) Also, as they say, the plot thickens, as the main characters from the two previous archs all come together... :o
September 5th 2008 Embalming volume 1 out in Japan!
Finally, ten months after its premiere, the first volume of the Embalming manga series sees the light of day! It contains the first five chapters, thus covering the entire first arch ("Dead Body and Revenger", Fury's story). The manga was released yesterday. It will still be a while until I will have my copy, but when the time comes, I will give you an in-depth rundown of the stuff contained in it.
Meanwhile, the manga continues through its second arch in Jump SQ. The current chapter is #9: "Dead Body and Lover 4".
August 12th 2008 Layout now less screwed up! New updates...
Summer goes on. We are approaching the release of the first volume of Embalming. It will be a day of joy. Until then, though, the chapter summaries have fallen a little behind, I am afraid. They only go to chapter 6, while Japan has reached chapter 8...
To compensate, I have tried my best with the character info section. To be exact, I have written short happy and mostly spoilerfree introductions to Fury and to Wraith. Writing these things is always a challenge, especially so early on in the story. I'll probably work on the other characters from the first arch later, but I'll wait for the end of the second arch to write about Elm, Ash and all the others. Stay tuned.
Oh, yeah, and I've been messing around with the layout. Like it?
June 28th 2008 New layout, debunking anime rumours, volume 1 delayed
Aoiya.de/embalming goes second version!
Well, I told you I wasn't going to continue with the orange-and-blue layout forever, didn't I? It is particularly funny because I had an Embalming layout ready and looking not too bad, months before the series began. But when the time came, I had grown so bored of it I had to use a different one just so I wouldn't bore myself to death. In fact, I think I did three layouts before I did the one I finally uploaded. And this here is a new one, too, and hopefully one that I can keep around for a while. Because it's all work, too, and when all is said and done, I don't do this for the fancy graphics, I do it so I can put information on Embalming out there!
Speaking of which, there are a couple of things I want to point out, because I keep coming across confusing things online.
No matter what you hear, there has not been an announcement of an Embalming anime as of yet. Nor of a drama CD.
Some places and individuals report about an anime, but they are mistaken. They are referring to an event from last December, but have misunderstood the information on the official website. Last December, on Shueisha's convention Jump Festa, there was an Embalming stage event, to promote the series and the new magazine. This stage event, as far as I know, meant that a couple of voice actors reenacted scenes from the manga (or rather its first chapter, as it was the only one released at that time).
The voice actors involved in this were Yuji Ueda (as Fury), Ryouka Yuzuki (as Dr. Peaberry), Mamoru Miyano (as Wraith) and Aya Hirano (as Edel).
I don't know what this event looked like completely, but it was just that: these four voice actors speaking dialogues from the manga, live on a stage on a convention. It was not an anime announcement.
This is not to say there won't be an anime eventually, but let's be realistic: Embalming is a monthly series that started just half a year ago. There are only seven chapters out, we have not even been introduced to all the main characters yet - it is simply too early for an anime adaptation. Give it some time.
Small comment on the voice actors above: They are all cast perfectly, aren't they? Yuji Ueda has played a brash, angry young man before: Sanosuke in Rurouni Kenshin. Ryouka Yuzuki was Tokiko in Busou Renkin and the tone of voice she used there would certainly work for Peaberry as well. Aya Hirano was Mahiro in Busou Renkin, and if you've read Embalming, you'll know that Edel and Mahiro are almost the exact same character (both by design and personality) and it's therefore really no surprise to see her listed there. The only voice actor who did not have a major role in a previous Watsuki anime is Mamoru Miyano, who is probably best known for his role of Light Yagami (I still want to call him Raito, but people would bite off my head... ;_;) in Death Note. Just based on that one role, yeah, definitely works for everyone's favourite psycho, Wraith. And by everyone's, I mean mine.
Volume 1 has been delayed. :(
Originally scheduled to be released in July, the first tankoubon of Embalming will come out two whole months later, in September. There has not been any reason given for this move, and frankly, I have no idea why it would be necessary. There is enough material to fill a volume, the way I'm counting. Of course, there may be some weird internal things going on that we simply cannot guess from an outsider's perspective.
There is also rare photographic evidence of Nobuhiro Watsuki having a relaxed party with friends last month after this news came out, posted to her blog by his partner and Embalming co-author Kaoru Kurosaki. This just for the paranoid among you: The man is doing fine.
The current chapter of Embalming (June 4th) marks the beginning of a new arch, starring Elm and Ashuhit from the second oneshot (Embalming II - Dead Body and Lover). It is also featured on the magazine's cover this month, making this the second time in its yet young history. Hooray!
Overall, things are going pretty well. Just that delay is a bugger.
