| "You were right, Peaberry. The art of creating a Frankenstein is neither about bringing back the dead, nor about granting eternal life. On the contrary... It's a horrible thing. Please, don't tell Edel the truth. Spare at least her."

Chapter 5: Dead Body and Revenger 5
First release: April 4 2008, in Jump SQ 05/08 Length: 31 pages Colour pages: none
The announcement that Fury wants to take Edel with them to London is triggering something in Wraith. He reflects on how important Fury has always been to him: He is the only one who ever helped him, and the only one Wraith cares about.
Lord Weiss interrupts Wraith's thoughts by clinging to his arm, begging him desperately to help him, offering him everything he owns in return. He even offers to give Wraith Edel as a bride, once he'll have turned her into a Frankenstein. But of course, this doesn't go down well with Wraith, who starts saying in reply that he does not need Edel.
Meanwhile, Fury and Dr. Peaberry are discussing. Fury asks her not to tell Edel anything about the Frankensteins, but to protect her from the terrible truth. He also apologizes to Peaberry, because he kept her from her research, but Peaberry disagrees with him, and explains that she is almost finished with her project anyway. Before Fury can ask her to elaborate, she changes the topic and asks Fury whether he doesn't want to kill the last Frankenstein as well - Wraith.
Fury refuses, insisting that Wraith is his best friend and different from the other Frankensteins. Peaberry is unimpressed, lets him hold Edel, and moves to kill Wraith herself. She reminds Fury that Frankensteins never retain the human's original psyche, and that they usually go insane. For example Shade, whose loyalty to Weiss was perverted into blind and heartless obedience once he became a Frankenstein.
In that moment, Wraith shoots Weiss at close range, killing him. Fury is shocked, and Wraith turns to him, aims at him, a disturbing smile on his face. He tells him that Fury promised that they would go to London, but only Fury and himself, not Edel.
Fury realizes what Wraith is up to, and turns around, shielding Edel with his body. Wraith fires anyway.
The scene changes now: Edel is in London, happy and excited. She turns to Wraith and Fury, who have come with her, and talks to them about how happy she is that they could all three go... but then she sees Fury's face, and asks him what's wrong... and the scenes changes back to reality, where Edel apparantly wakes up from her dream and her sleep, looking up at Fury, not understanding why he is crying. She hugs him to calm him down, just like she did in an earlier flashback... and now we see that Wraith's shot went right through her body - and through Fury's as well.
Edel glides out of Fury's arms, dead.
And the bandage around Fury's throat has come loose and reveals - electrodes. Fury is a Frankenstein! And a quick flashback reveals that when Peaberry found him, Fury was actually dead, his head completely severed. Aw man. Peaberry comes to speak again of her project that's already as good as finished. She explains that the past month was merely spent observing how everything would turn out - how Fury, her Frankenstein, would turn out.
Fury is visibly shocked, but Wraith is absolutely thrilled to learn that Fury is a Frankenstein just like him. He comes running towards him with a huge smile, and gushes that they can go to London together, now that Edel is no longer in the way!
Yes, that was not the right thing to say. Fury violently stabs Wraith in the chest, and starts to rage and shout that he will kill all Frankensteins. Wraith reminds him that Fury is a Frankenstein himself, but Fury only shouts back that this means one more Frankenstein to kill, in the end, and that's all there is to it. And he throws a knife at him, which comes to stick in Wraith's forehead.
(Dr. Peaberry remains creepily calm throughout this.)
Wraith, now seriously injured, retreats towards the mansion's door, quite shaken and scared. He turns back when he reaches the door, and aims his gun at Fury, but another thrown knife breaks his hand and makes him lose the gun. Fury advances on him, but a few steps before he reaches him, the electrodes around his throat start acting up. Peaberry quietly explains this as overload, the electrodes no longer being able to support the electric current due to Fury's incredible anger. However that works, it's making it impossible for Fury to reach Wraith, and Wraith silently escapes through the door into the mansion. While staring at Fury and looking utterly shocked.
Fury has not calmed down, and continues to shout that Wraith should come back so he can kill him, and pounds against the door. Inside the mansion, Wraith listens, and realizes that Fury really, really wants him dead. He has tears rolling down his face when he shouts to Fury that he'll be waiting for him in London. Fury shouts back that he will kill him there.
Time passes, it's spring, and Fury and Dr. Peaberry are standing by Edel's grave. They are about to depart towards London, and Fury is saying good-bye to Edel.
After he asks her to explain, Peaberry tells him why she chose to turn him into a Frankenstein: she wanted to create a Frankenstein that would want to destroy the Frankensteins, and with his experiences in life and his violent manner of death, and his revenge obsession... Fury was perfect for her project. It looks like Peaberry has sworn revenge herself.
While Fury follows Peaberry, vowing that he'll never let any Frankenstein rest peacefully, no matter who it is... the scene changes to elsewhere, maybe not far away, to the Frankenstein girl Elm L. Renegade. She has woken up from a nap by the roadside, and notices that her travelling companion, Ashuhit, is nowhere to be seen. And now she is alone and does not even know the direction to where she is heading. Which is, of course, London.
